Moona Whyte taking the win at GKA World Tour in Cabo Verde

Congratulations to Moona Whyte for taking the win at the GKA Kite-Surf World Cup Cabo Verde! After missing the latter part of last year's competition due to a back injury, Moona is back with a bang, stoked to win the first GKA wave event this year.

"I'm so stoked to take the win at Ponta Preta this year", Moona says, "The conditions were really amazing. The first couple days of the event had pumping surf, and although the wind was a difficult direction being more offshore than normal, we were still able to get some good rides. It was tough but so worth it! All of the girls were having a great time pushing themselves in these challenging conditions too so it was really fun to be a part of it."

Ponta Preta had been firing almost non-stop throughout February and the run of epic conditions has carried over into this week with clean sets building up to double overhead and beyond.

Moona's ability to seek out the critical sections on the bigger faces was unsurpassable and she was the only rider in her division managing to get covered-up and ride away from it.

After four days of absolutely all-time conditions at Ponta Preta, Moona retained her first place position from the single eliminations and reigned the doubles with an 8.47, the highest scoring wave in the woman’s division at this event. From there she was untouchable with the biggest combo score of the competition – 16.04 points, securing her win at the first GKA tour stop!

"I couldn't have asked for a better return to competition after recovering from my back injury. It's so nice to be back in the water again and I'm looking forward to more wind and wave hunting in the near future!"
